Fighting back your fears and anxieties with the grounded, rational parts of your psyche is a fucking uphill battle, albeit one I appear to be winning, for a change.

Random Memory Memories, Pt. 3
I’ve only played Jenga twice; in a way, I’ve never played at all.
I mean, playing by yourself while a child psychologist watches you doesn’t really count as playing, right? It’s not sold as a solitary game, or a psychological exam. I don’t know what I revealed about myself that day, and I don’t care. That was my first and only time at the state hospital in Boston, and I wasn’t about to ask why.
What also doesn’t really count is when playing the infamous Truth or Dare Jenga in college degenerates into just throwing all the pieces into a bag and drawing one at random to answer the question (“Truth” was brutal at my school, and thus the only one anyone gave a shit about). I don’t think we built up more than one tower before acknowledging that all we really wanted to do was answer painfully personal, awkward questions for each other.

Time to kick out the slow jams.
And to mention again that these fine young men are playing Spaceland on Monday night (11/23). Free show! Jams to make you feel like it’s still summer for a little while! Don’t be late! They’re professionally approved!

File under: “Funny because it’s true.”
Sometimes, against all odds, things work out. Maybe not perfectly (I mean, how often do you really experience perfection?), but they work out. People can change, even you.
Beck, “Dead Melodies”
I love this song. I have always loved this song. Seeing it in Adaptation made me love it more, but said love was already eternal.
I performed it as part of my tiny class’s huge senior play back in high school. It was the only thing I desperately wanted to do (not that I didn’t enjoy the couple other portions I was involved with). It remains the only performance over which I have zero regrets.
It’s become my default answer for my favorite song ever, as much as I can even have a favorite song.
